The project is located on the wind swept plains in Wyoming overlooking the North Platte River. The ranch layout will have a collection of structures based on the rustic lodge vernacular. The compound effect of separate structures and mature landscaping created an external courtyard facing south. Situated on a gently rolling hill the residence has been tucked into the hill to protect from northerly winter winds and open to the south for solar gain and views to Laramie Peak and the North Platte River. As the mass of the residence slowly cascades down with the hill different exterior materials will complement the residence such as stone, sheet metal, and wood planking with accent heavy timbers. The residence for the Murphy’s had several needs to be accomplished within their new residence’s interior-storage, views and space for their family and the exterior was to create a rustic lodge effect with orientation for views and environmental conditions.
Throughout the residence will be cubbies, nooks, and away spaces accented with natural light from large amounts of windows, heavy timbers, stone, wood floors and plaster will express the rustic lodge style.
